I started on Fishing Frontier (Known as Fishing Simulator at the time) in late 2020. Working on a live service, F2P game was an illuminating experience. I was in charge of the “Builders” (Level designers), Artists, and Animators. I led regularly SCRUM meetings of up to 10 employees.

Leading up to the massive rebranding and soft relaunch of the game, my goal was to organize and assist in preventing scope creep, while still adding content to the game as it currently existed. It was a massive challenge, but one I’d do again in an instant.

    Unique Areas getting more Interesting

    One of the main challenges was re-working old content to have consistent use for endgame players. This required going over how progression was handled at all levels, and took much work.

    Social Spaces for All

    Roblox is a very social platform, and our playerbase largely came to relax and socialize, not min-max. The creation of more dedicated social spaces was a bit part in my new design for hub areas like Port Jackson.

    Brand New Locations

    While we were re-working older areas, we still had to produce new content. Live-service games are like that. We wanted more impressive landmarks than just nice pretty greenery. I think we made it work.
